Two Kaiser Permanente Buildings

Kaiser is recognized as one of America’s leading healthcare providers and not-for-profit health plans. The headquarters for Kaiser is located at 1950 Franklin Street and houses all administrative functions, a redundant data center, and is the primary control center for the entire hospital system in the event of a natural disaster. This headquarters facility consists of a 22-story high rise and a 5-story mid-rise annex building.

In 2009 the headquarters facility earned the US Environmental Protection Agency’s prestigious ENERGY STAR rating, as a result of a number of energy efficiency projects that Syserco lead. A major initiative to reach this goal was the replacement and upgrade of the existing, obsolete and minimally functional building automation system. After an exhaustive bid analysis process, Syserco was selected as the prime contractor to deliver this extremely challenging project in an occupied facility with no downtime and no disruption to staff. Syserco was chosen for our successful track record in retrofitting occupied spaces with minimized disruptions to tenants.

The Syserco team worked closely with Kaiser to plan and stage the cutover of each floor with no interruption to daily operations at the headquarters. To achieve no interruptions, Syserco developed a master schedule that included contingency planning to allow flexibility for unforeseen circumstances. Syserco’s project team successfully delivered a retrofit of the central plant and of 27 floors with no disruption to tenants or daily operations.
