Helicopter shot of Richmond Labs

The State of California Department of Health Services Laboratory needed a new facility to conduct research, experiments, and first line response to emerging health threats. This required the construction of a chemical, biological vivarium and critical containment laboratory facility. With critical, complex spaces at play, the State turned to Syserco as their HVAC controls partner on this four-year, 650,000 square foot laboratory project.

The facility includes a main laboratory building, ten ancillary buildings, and a central plant. The Alerton suite of products are used across these spaces to control the massive energy management and control system that is integral to the safe and efficient operation of this complex facility.

The Alerton system also provides control and monitoring for multiple critical environments including BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories, VAV chemistry laboratories, radioisotope hoods, a large vivarium, and hazardous materials storage. In addition to critical pressurization control of these spaces, the system also monitors and alarms multiple utility systems and hundreds of freezers, refrigerators, and incubators that house critical research and forensic samples.

The systems and technologies installed and maintained by Syserco ensure the personnel of the Department of Health Services and Department of Justice Forensic Laboratory can perform their work in a safe, comfortable, and energy efficient environment.
